Meet the Woman Behind the Lens

Hello! I’m Enid Revious, co-owner, primary photographer, marketing strategist, and blogger for Ethereal Exposures Photography. I am also a mother, wife, artist, analyst, foodie, slightly crunchy mama, dreamer, and Disney fan. Essentially, the woman behind the lens….and a bit more. Like most entrepreneurs. I am multi-dimensional and wear many hats. My husband and I started Ethereal Exposures in January 2015. We started this blog a few months later to document and share our journey. On our blog, you will find tidbits into our personal lives, tutorials on photography and editing, spotlights on our client sessions, insights into living healthy, thoughts on brand management, and so much more. I hope you will follow us as we embark on this new road.

I have always loved taking pictures …especially on my camera phone. (My husband will attest to that since before we were married, when I was in my early twenties, I  took a lot of selfies. True millennial, right? He found them on our computer and thought it was hilarious.) But, now that I am a mom, its even worse, because I am constantly taking pictures of my kids. In fact, I am almost always out of memory on my phone because I probably take, um way too many! Well, can you really have too many photos? After all a photo captures a memory; a moment in our lives.

Photos Bring Back Implicit Memories

I recently read this book that talked a little about how are brains operate and one of the things they touched on was implicit and explicit memories. So explicit memories are the ones you openly remember, the really big things that happen in our lives. But the implicit memories are the ones that occur everyday, ones that do not readily stand out. Those memories get filed somewhere in our brains. We forget about them … but they are still there somewhere. Then, we see something, such as a picture, or smell something familiar, such as perfume, and the memory pops back into our minds. One implicit memory that I have has to do with the scent of the powder my grandmother used to wear. I don’t think abut it on a daily basis or remember it specifically but if I get a whiff of that specific scent, a vivid memory of me, as a little kid, giving her a hug goodbye in our Dublin house before my dad drove her home comes vividly back into mind. She would bend over to give me a hug (I was 5 or 6 at the time) and my face would get pressed against hers and I remember the softness of her skin, the scent of her powder, and the scratchiness of her soft pink dress (the one with ties around the neckline). Today, this memory brings tears to my eyes even though it is a fond and loving memory because my grandmother has been with God now for over 15 years. Think about it. What kind of memories get stirred up when you look through an album of your childhood or one of your parent’s? What implicit memories do you have?

Today, I have implicit memories brought back into the front of my mind all the time through pictures. In fact, thank you to FaceBook Memories, this happens like everyday to me now. There is always that cute video or picture of one of my kids that I shared. And, in the moment, I remember thinking I will always remember this, but then you don’t. Then every year, it pops back up into my memory feed, and I think to myself, “Oh! yay! that’s right, I remember that!” But, the truth is, I didn’t just recall it on my own. An association, in my case, a photo, brought that memory back for me. So click on and share on, my friends. Your photos are invaluable! Time passes, people change, kids grow up, but your photos last forever and will always bring back those implicit memories.

My Photographic and Business History

One of my key strengths is my background in business. Not only did I earn my Bachelors degree with an emphasis in Marketing, but I also have a Masters degree in Business as well. In addition, I have extensive experience helping small businesses achieve success and growth across the Western United States. This experience is largely gained from working at a fortune 100 company for 15 years as an Account Manager and Operations Analyst supporting independent agents.

Then, the world of digital photography started beckoning to me in 2013 when I purchased my first DSLR from that big box retailer where everyone gets their first camera …. So cliché!!! Lol! Then my daughter was born and I wanted to capture, preserve, and memorize every moment, and just like that my newly found photographic obsession became insatiable! I began my journey into the photographic world and literally read everything I could get my hands on.

Our brand photography sessions combine both my business experience and my photographic passion. These sessions offer our clients something unique to help them grow their own businesses by connecting them to their customers through authentic and consistent imagery along with a marketing strategy on how to use those images in an effective way.

The Beginnings of a Business

In 2015 we began the process of forming our own business. We decided on the name “ethereal” because it means “extremely delicate and light that is too perfect for this world”. Our goal is to have our images reflect beautiful and professional light with vibrant jewel tone colors in a way that leaves the viewer feeling happy, maybe even with a touch of awe.

In mid 2016, I left my corporate job to be a full-time wife and mother and you guessed it a full-time photographer. What an opportunity and a dream come true! However, without my income contributing to our bottom line, our monthly financial inflow was cut in half! Yikes! To do this, there was a lot of financial planning we had to do first so that we were prepared to work with less every month. My blog talks a little about this and also some of my thoughts on financial well-being, not that I am a financial expert or anything, but there have been a few things that have worked successfully for us that I can share (that’s the business analyst side of me at work),

A Little About my Blog

Well, in all honesty, I love to write and there are a couple topics I am passionate about so my blog probably surpasses what you would expect from “just a photography site”. Perhaps I am a little too broad? Or I just have a lot to say … I’ll let you be the judge. If you subscribe to my blog, you will find topics that reflect who I am as a person, mother, wife, photographer, etc… You will find topics that relate to photography, crafts, food, finances, kids, and living a healthy lifestyle. Hopefully, that makes me interesting and not scatter brained. LOL!

In closing, our journey into photography has been an evolution of learning and self-discovery. Follow me as I turn my dreams into reality-and share with you a little of myself as well as all the behind the scenes trials and tribulations along the way… let’s be friends.
