Beautiful light, beautiful family, beautiful setting…. it doesn’t get better than this!

About this Session

This beautiful family session featured my best friend’s family in Valley Springs on a warm sunny spring afternoon. It totally looks like I scouted out this fabulous location, right? Nope! These were taken in her front yard! Can you believe that? If you haven’t been to Valley Springs, it is a very beautiful country town east of Stockton. You get a mix of trees and rolling hills throughout with houses sprinkled between. When I first saw her front yard with pockets of brightly colored wildflowers all over the place, I knew it would be the perfect spot for their session. I especially fell in love with this one little area that had a plethora of bright yellow flowers.

Because it was mid-afternoon, the sun was quite bright so my strategy for this session was to backlight my subjects and get that beautiful bright light and glow behind them. Although taking pictures can be tricky in the middle of the afternoon as opposed to the evening due to bright harsh light, I love how the bright light makes colors more brilliant. I think these pictures definitely benefitted from that brilliance, especially in that patch of bright yellow wildflowers.
